Agricultural Engineering
is the route Craig
Burkholder has chosen for
himself, and Penn State
University is his goal
Craig has been an active
member of the
Conococheague FFA
Chapter for four years His
projects have included swine
finishing, swine breeding,
beef finishing, hay crops,
coin, agronomy contests and
forestry
As the 16 year old son of
Jay and Joanne Burkholder,
Craig served as president of
his chapter his senior year.
He also has served as county
president.
This Silver Emblem
winner in the State
Agronomy Contest is a
member of the Franklin
County 4-H beef club, the St.
Thomas 4-H pig club and the
James Buchanan Soccer
Team.
Besides the Greenhouse
Degree, the Chapter Degree,
the County Degree and the
Star Chapter Degree, Craig
is now a recipient of the
Keystone Farmer Degree.

Bentley Gamble of Con
cord hopes to be a successful
farmer someday.
“I am renting two farms. I
work for my father and one
of my jobs is milking cows
and feeding calves every
morning before going to
school. I get home from
school at dinner time,
because I am on a work
release program at school I
can get done with my work
by 9 p.m. I just recently took
an artificial insemination
course with Select-Sires. I
plan to breed all my cows
and my father’s also. I hope
to increase our milk
production by doing this,”
Bentley said.
The 18 year old son of
Bruce and Betty Gamble,
Bentley has accomplished
projects m dairy heifers,
swine breeding, swine
feeding, sheep breeding,
sheep finishing, corn, oats,
wheat, hay and pasture.
This four-year member of
the Path Valley FFA
Chapter owns some of his
own machinery too two
tractors, a haybine, a
mower, a wagon, and an
elevator.
Bentley is also president of
his FFA Chapter this year.

County
Jeff Burd
JEFFBURD
Juniata High School
Jeff Burd, son of Mr and
Mrs. Ronald Burd, Rl, Port
Royal, participated in
various FFA projects at
Juniata High School.
Among his projects were
growing field corn, raising
market hogs and two
projects involving wildlife.
His school activities in
clude tri-captain of the
football team, member of
the wrestling team for two
years and also a participant
in field and track
In addition to lus school
activities, Jeff served as
ENGINEERED
president ot the Explorer’s
Club and a participant in
activities at the Cedar Grove
Brethren in Christ Church.
Following high school
graduation, he plans to
continue working in the
family dairy operation.
Mike Mahen

Dairy projects were at the
center of FFA activities of
Mike Mahen, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Luther Mahen, Rl,
Thompsontown
His projects at Juniata
High School included two
involving dairy calves, three
with dairy cows and two
wildlife projects
Also, he served as
president of the Juniata FFA
Chapter. Other school ac
tivities included chef’s club,
sportsman club and the
National Honor Society
His out-of-school activities
included explorer’s club, 4-H
and attendance at the Locust
Run United Methodist
Church.
After graduation, Mike
plans to help his father on
their dairy operation.
JOSEPHSHEARER
Juniata High School
FFA projects of Joseph
Shearer, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Reynolds Shearer, RI, Port
Royal, included two dairy
cow projects, swine breeding
projects and three field corn
projects.
