THOMAS RITCHEY Northern Bedford County High School Tom Ritchey of Roaring Spring hopes to study agriculture education at Penn State University after graduation. What led to this decision were four years on the Northern Bedford FFA Chapter and many projects. Included among these were dairy judging, dairy calves, com silage, dairy judging and public speaking Tom served as a member of the Program of Work Committee, Livestock Committee and as reporter. This year he is president of his chapter, and has, in the past, received a plaque for an area farming program Tom is a member of his high school’s chorus, football team, varsity club, and student council DAVID SMITH Northern Bedford County High School David Smith of Roaring Spring plans to attend Penn State University at the Mont Alto campus for a two year program in forestry. David, the son of Darnel and Beverly Smith, has been a member of the Northern Bedford FFA Chapter for four years David, who has had projects in dairy calves, dairy cows, com and alfalfa, is serving as student advisor this year. He also reports he has been elected chapter farmer and has received a plaque for an area farming program in the past. David has had projects in beef finishing, turkeys, field com, and has been part of his chapter’s executive committee and leadership committee. As a past president, vice president and reporter, David has received the county degree and has been named a star chapter far mer. He also placed second in the state project book contest. This hunting enthusiast hopes to be a production farmer in the future. CHERYLADAM Hamburg Area High School Cheryl L Adam receives her Keystone Degree for her outstanding leadership abilities. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Adam, Ham burg R 2, she is actively engaged in dairy farm ac tivities She was a recent Berks County Dairy Princess, and the outstanding 4-H girl for 1980 She was secretary and president of Hamburg Area Machine Work Welding & Farm Supplies Hardware FFA m her junior and senior years. Cheryl graduated in June 1980. She served as Berks County FFA County Sentinel and served on many com mittees She attended the 1979 FFA Convention in Kansas City as a chapter representative For many years she has exhibited dairy animals at the Kutztown and Reading Fairs She has competed as a dairy judge locally and at Penn State FFA Activities Week, also winning a Dairy Production Award She finds time to be an active member of Zion’s UCC and also is a member of Virginville Grange Ham burg Area FFA is proud to have her as a member V * Gerald Haas GERALDHAAS Kutztown Area High School Gerald Haas of Lenhart sville has been a member of the Kutztown FFA Chapter for three years. During that time he has served in various committees and carried out several projects They include gardening, swine fattening and work experience He has been chairman of the seed sales committee, the chapter poultry committee, and pumpkin contest and the citrus sales committee. Gerald served as president of his chapter thus year. Also, m past years, he has received the county degree and a poultry production proficiency award Gerald hopes to own and operate his own dairy farm in the future. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and trap ping. Bruce Latshaw BRUCE LATSHAW Kutztown Area High School Bruce Latshaw of Berks County has worked with a herd of Holstein cows for his project during his three years m the Kutztown FFA Chapter. The son of Earl and Joyce Latshaw, Bruce served as chairman of the banquet committee, and the public speaking committee He also has attended the National Convention for three years and a leadership training conference in Washington Bruce, a member of the state FFA chorus, is president of his chapter this year. In 1979 he served as county secretary and as a member of the state FFA chorus Bruce has been active in many high school activities also. Chorus, band, jazz ensemble, boys barbershop group and Berks County chorus are just a few He is a member of the Berks 4-H dairy club. Bruce says in his future he hopes to run for a state FFA office and then attend Penn State University majoring in dairy science or ag education.
