Pennsylvania Agriculture
Secretary Penrose Hailowell
today announced the
schedule of evening events
for the 1981 Farm Show,
January 11 to 16.

tertainment at the Farm
Show this year,” Hailowell
said. “From country music
to huge draft horses, there is
something for every
member of the family,
making the evening ac
tivities a good way to finish
the day at the show.”
Kicking up their heels in the large arena looks like fun for the folk dancers who
will be competing for a blue ribbon in the contest to be held Tuesday evening.

festivities beginning at 7 30
p.m Country Current, the
Umted States Navy Band’s
country/bluegrass unit, will
give a special performance
that evening. Country
Current specializes in music
from the heartland of
America and is the only
service band unit which
provides country and
bluegrass sounds.
During the Monday night
program, Secretary
Hailowell will present the
prestigious Farm Show
Family of the Year Award to
the Farm Show Family
which best represents the

The Farm Show Family of
the Year is selected for its
record of success in
exhibition at the Farm Show.

on Secretary’s Night, is the
Agribusiness Award,
presented to that
agriculture-related business
which has done the most to
promote Pennsylvania
agriculture.
Following the awards,
visitors to the large arena
will be treated to a 4-H Horse
and Pony Demonstration by
the Cumberland County 4-H

Horse and Pony Club, an
event which is now an annual
feature of the Farm Show.
Tuesday night is Master
Farmer’s Night in
recognition of those farmers
who receive the coveted
MccblorFai.uer.ward
Beginning at G. 15 p.m.,
visitors will be entertained
by the Future Farmers of
America Band Concert. The
concert is followed by the
Folk Dance Festival and
Contest at 7:30, the largest
square dance in the nation
with 48G contestants
Horses and sheep will be in
the spotlight on Wednesday
evening. Magnificent draft
horses will strain at the reins
in the large arena beginning
at 4:30 p.m., as they attempt
to beat each other in the
Championship Horse Pulling
Contest. Competition will
take place in both light
weight and heavy weight

Shearing, spinning, and weaving will be demonstrated to the public as teams
compete in the annual Sheep to Shawl Contest.
