busy Mother’s Day market plant sales weekend, Dwight
and Treva offered to be hosts, rather than participants
Later this summer, they returned the visit, spending
three days with their new friends in West Berlin Such
trips are not new to Dwight and Treva, who are en
thusiastic and extensive travelers They’ve visited friends
in South America and been to Europe twice, including the
Scandinavian countries
Two years ago, the family purchased a self-contained
mobile home camper, and have visited 49 of the 50 states,
including Alaska, in the past several years Dwight is an
ardent photographer, combining that hobby with the
camping interest
Before she became a farm wife, Treva served some
tune with the Brethren Volunteer Service, a corps of both
foreign and domestic mission workers for the Brethren
Church Her dedication to similar programs have kept
Treva deeply involved m her local Fairview Brethren
Church, where she teaches an adult Bible class, as well as
in church affiliate groups.
Recently, she served as the president of the auxiliary of
the Brethren Home at Cross Keys, in Adams County The
auxiliary plans special programs, such as picnics, holiday
parties and barbecuesior the home’s elderly residents, as
well as organize highly-successful fund-raising drives
During the last three years, some $70,000 was raised for
the Home’s building fund, with the women pledged now to
earn another hundred thousand dollars in the next three
years
Treva also represents the church’s central Penn
sylvania district on the board of Bethany Hospital, a
general medical care facility located in Chicago and
sponsored by the Brethren Chruch That board is
presently overseeing construction of a new hospital and
Treva has traveled to Chicago in the past to visit the
hospital.
The Markey’s are members of the York County Far
mers Association and Treva is a charter member of Agri-
Women This past November, Penn’s Agri-Women hosted
the national convention and Treva handled the bank ac
counts as the convention’s financial chairman
Modest and dedicated, Treva is embarrased when
praised about her accomplishments Her philosophy
probably comes pretty close to the poster that adorns the
wall in the blood program office at Memorial Hospital It
says ‘Sometimes it takes more than love - give blood ’
That’s what Treva Markey gives to others, not only her
love, but her time and her leadership as well
