Midweek prices on
slaughter steers and heifers
were 25-50 higher, some
mixed 3-4 75-1 00 higher
Cows were 1.50-2 00 higher
and bulls firm to 1 00 higher
Four day receipts this
week 13,700; last week
14,400; year ago 17,300.
The fed cattle trade
followed an erratic pattern
in reflection of a rapidly and
sharply fluctuating carcass
trade Prices were forced
downward on the initial
session, but the early decline
was more than offset in an
aggressive trade on later
sessions as carcass prices
moved substantially up
ward Yield grade was still a
major price-determining
factor, but after Monday
most buying interests were
somewhat less
discriminating in active
competition to secure
numbers The overall fmish
of the steer and heifer supply
was still attractive with a
large percentage Choice,
and the volume of yield

somewhat smaller
