George Heckman, president of the Fruit Growers Association and general manager of On telaunee Orchards, along with George Perry, vice president of the Fruit Growers Association, presented the check The amount is from profits received through sales of apple cider at the Fruit Grower's exhibit during the Reading Fair Four-H members, 4-H leaders, the Extension Nutritions Aides, and members ot the association manned the exhibit The 4-H Community Center Fund Drive is an effort by the Berks County 4-H Development Council to raise $550,000 towards construction of a Community Center Building and a pole barn on the 4-H Center area. Also, during the Fair another $2,200 was raised by Simmental breeders to meet in DENVER, Colo Sun mental producer from throughout the United States and Canada will be con verging on Denver for the Thirteenth Annual Meeting and Convention of the American Simmental Association January 19 and 20. The Convention, Kriese wins Hereford heifer ITHACA, NY - Recipients of the first New York Junior Heieford Association Achievement Award contest were recently announced Joh Knese, Liverpool, was selected as this year’s winner Knese was presented with a registered Hereford heifer donated by Ed and Dorothy Huxtale, Clay, N Y The heiter will be exhibited at a number of livestock shows throughout the state in the coming year. The achievement contest was developed by officers and advisors of the New York Junior Hereford Association The program will be continued in the upcoming year with the return of the heifer’s first progeny to the state Junior association. One portion of the program, presented by Horst Leipold of Kansas State University and by Jerre Johnson of the University of Nebraska, will deal with “Keeping Sun mental Genetically Clean” and “ASA Sponsored Research”. The second portion on the program is entitled “A Realistic Look at Birth Weights and Calving Ease” and will be presented by Larry Corah of Kansas State; Bob deßaca of Ideal Beef Systems, Huxley, Iowa; and Roy Wallace of Select Sires of Plain City, Ohio.
