Maryland Grangers honored at national session
CEDAR RAPIDS, lowa -
Twenty-four Maryland
Grangers attend the 114th
annual National Grange
Session in Cedar Rapids,
lowa
Each grange state has two
voting delegates who serve
on committees at the state
convention. State Master C
Rodman Myers served on
the Agriculture Committee
and his wife, Jean, served on
the Grange Activities
Committee.
U S Secretary of
Agriculture, Bob Bergland
spent some time meeting
with the agriculture com
mittee on Thursday mor
ning, prior to addressing the
Agricultural Banquet that
afternoon. Several Maryland
Grange resolutions became
part of National Grange
policy adopted by the voting
delegates at the convention
Maryland received an award
for a gam in membership
One of the highlights of the
convention to Marylanders
was at the Youth Coronation
Pageant when David Wiles
of Glade Valley Grange-

possessing antlerless deer
licenses in six southeastern
and southwestern Penn
sylvania counties will have
six days in which to take an
antlerless whitetail starting
December 15
The areas involved include
Allegheny, Chester,
Delaware and Montgomery
Counties and that part of
Berks County south of Route
22 (Interstate Route 78) and
Walkersville, Maryland was
named the National Grange
Prince for 1981 This was the
first tune a Marylander has
ever won the title

the Youth Director of the
Year” by William Steel,
National Grange Youth

Nancy Wolfe, State
Grange Lecturer, announced
that in Photography Junior
Grange, Color Slide, Juhann
Brauer of Thurmont Junior
Grange placed second in
peoples and animals
categories
In the adult posters class,
Nancy Wolfe of Brandywine
placed third.
Louisa Hott, State Grange
Women’s Activities
Director, announced in the
needlework contest, Ruth
Talhelm of Leitersburg
Grange placed first with her
crocheting. In the graphic
quilt block category, Flora
Wiley of Norrisville Grange
placed second and in the
primitive colorful quilt clock
category, Regina Ahalt of
Monday
that part of Bucks County in
the Special Regulations Area
of southeastern Penn
sylvania
Hunters must have an
antlerless deer license for
the county in which the> are
hunting
The six-day season open
one-half hour before sunrise
on Monday, December 15,
and closes at sunset on
Saturday, December 20
Middletown Grange placed
second
The Golden Quill award
for women who work on
legislation went to Ethel
Brauer of Thurmont Grange
third and Edith Kilby of
Calvert Grange-honorable
mention In the Women’s
Activities Notebooks, Donna
Mills of Frederick County
Pomona Grange placed
ninth and Frances Crun of
Glade Valley (subordinate
grange) placed tenth, Mrs.
Hott also received an award
for Maryland for surpassing
their sewing quota.
Maryland State Grange
received a $2OO cash award
for selling National Grange
cookbooks in the Group II
division.
