designs many of her own
outfits and plans to earn a
master’s degree in fashion
merchandising, has won a
$l,OOO special 4-H scholar
ship
Margaret Kean, 18, Drexel
Hill, was one of two mem
bers to receive a $l,OOO
scholarship from The Edwin
T Meredith Foundation
Winners were announced
during the 59th National 4-H
Congress in Chicago Nov 30-
Dec 4 Winners were
selected by the Cooperative
Extension Service and
awards arranged by
National 4-H Council
Kean, daughter of Mr and
Mrs F Patrick Kean, is a
freshman at Immaculata
(Pa ) College She compiled
an outstanding 4-H record in
over 10 years in Delaware
County.

to sew for underprivileged

Markets ethanol system

Company to market their
Ideal 500 Alcohol System in
the Northeastern United
States
The Ideal 500 is a batch
still capable of producing
190-proof ethanol at a rate of
14 gallons per hour The
system enjoys basic proven
technology and un
complicated control
systems The distillation
tower is controlled by one
water valve and proof is
indicated by a continuous
flow hydrometer The
system can be direct fired
with gas or steam heated,
and a biomass boiler is of
fered as an alternate with
the package
The Ideal 500 System is
considered to be the lowest
cost farm fuel alcohol plant
m its class A single farmer
using the basic system can
produce 4000 to 5000 gallons
of alcohol by working two
days a week over the winter
months, and with additional
fermentation equipment,
this capacity can be ex
panded to 130,000 gallons
annually for a continuous
operation
A working facility utilizing
Simmental group to meet in January

The program, which will
be presented in the Imperial
Kean, the oldest of six
children, was her county’s
1980 4-H fashion revue
winner, making and mod
eling a garment, and also
won a gold ribbon in regional
competition before moving
on to the state finals
The coed, who won fashion
revue and clothing awards at
the county and regional
levels since 1975, has made a
number of clothing items
over the years They include
sleeveless dresses, cotton
skirts and a bathing suit
Kean also served as a
junior leader, aiding
younger 4-H’ers with their
projects. In high school, she
was editor of the school
newspaper and a writer on
the literary magazine She
was also a member of the
National Honor Society and
salutatonan of her
graduating class
the 500 system is under
construction at Black Arrow
Farms located in
Southeastern Berks County
This facility will be used for
demonstration and training
as well as producing 190 plus
proof alcohol for the farm
use.
This plant will be in
production the first week of
December and will
ultimately be fueled by a
steam boiler fired with
wood, corn cobs or waste hay
or straw, or other bailed
materials
The firm offers a complete
line of alcohol plants up to
500,000 gallons per year
capacity The larger plants
are sold on a design and
build basis Ihe designs tor

distillation columns are
provided by Schroder Farms
