This monster 225 hp four-wheel-drive tractor
from Steiger offers farmers an alternative to
higher-horsepower, two-wheel-drive tractors
and other four-wheel-drive tractors in the under
-200 drawbar hp class. The Steiger Bearcat 111 ST
225 features a turbocharged, in-line, six-cylinder
Caterpillar 3306 T engine. The model’s Oana-
Spicer SST-1010 transmissions combined with
two-speed transfer case provides 20 forward
speeds. The Steiger Safair Cab features as stand
ard: air conditioner and heater, pressurized dust
control, tinted glass, full instrumentation and
am/fm stereo radio.

In the past, many milking
parlors have been con
structed of concrete blocks.
Such building are often
inadequately ventilated and
hard to keep clean. Because
of poor insulation, they are
also difficult to maintain to
temperatures comfortable
for farm workers
The parlor at the Hafer
farm, in contrast, is
assembled of Bally sectional
prefab construction panels,
each insulated with four
inches of urethane foamed in
place between galvanized

Twelve Surge milking
stalls make it possible to
handle a dozen cows at once.
In addition to the parlor, the
building contains two more
rooms, one housing the milk
storage tank, sanitation
equipment and controls The
other room is a utility area
for the vacuum pump,
hardware storage and
refrigeration equipment
A heat-return system was
incorporated into the design
to take advantage of heat
generated by the milk
cooling system. This heat
can be channeled back into
the milking parlor itself.
