This operation was started 35 years ago by Roy and Gloria Christman and now also boosts the second and third generations living on the farm and carrying on the Ro-Ria through Ronald and Faye Christman and their four children All of the other stops along the tour also offered in teresting aspects of the rural Berks County farming community offering something different at each stop Harold and Eleanor Burgert opened the door of their general farm first settled m 1733. Located near Fleetwood, this is one of the oldest farms in the county and a former stage coach relay station The present home was built in 1771 and the farm is 120 acres The Burgerts raise cows, steers, hogs, chickens and ducks and also have many cats Danvale Farms, Rerhersburg, is another dairy farm participating in the tours for several years. It consists of 380 acres and is operated by Lillian and Daniel Harmsh. A new Tngon milking parlor with a capacity of twelve cows at a time recently installed, along with free stall barns, corral pens, and loose housing were offered for inspection on this tour. Del-James Farms, Hamburg operated by Delores and James Adam and their children, James, Cheryl and Jan also hosted their urban neighbors This farm is a dairy and general crop farm The Adams milk 150 cows in a Boumatic Carousel milking parlor with magnetic feeders, and raise their calves in calf hutches Their daughter Christine, a vo-ag teacher also con tinues to help in her spare time New on the tour this year is Featherhill Farm, Lenhartsville This is a 125 acre farm devoted to Quarter Horse training and breeding run by Arlene and Audrey Hemey, daughter Karlene and grandson Scott. Featherhill Farm was started 32 years ago and is also the home of Featherhill Tack and Western Wear Shop The farm house dates back to 1811. Another interesting stop was Gaetani Brothers Mushrooms, Temple This operation was started in 1949 and is run by Silvio and Joe Gaetani and their children Houses are located in two locations and cover 200,000 square feet of growing space to produce “a lot of mushrooms.” Ontelaunee Orchards, Leesport, opened their doors to the new controlled at mosphere fruit storage building where 64,000 bushels of apples can be stored for the tour. Visitors were also welcome to the new retail outlet owned and operated by the orchard. Acreage includes 825 acres of apples, 200 acres of peaches, and 35 acres of other fruit. Alton Rohrbach, Shoemakersvilie, and wife Noan and children, operate a 107 acre farm called Lacy Acres.
