MOLINE, IL - The 1981
John Deere line of compact
utility tractors includes two
new models, the 14.5-PTO-hp
650 and the 18-PTO-hp 750.
Powered by diesel engines,
both feature a sliding-gear
transmission with eight
forward and two reverse
speeds Mechanical front
wheel drive and power
steering are optional
The new 650 has an 11.3-
inch ground clearance,
enabling it to ride over curbs
when used in grounds
maintenance work. The
front wheel tread is fixed at
32.7 inches, but the rear
wheels can be set in two
positions - either 31.5 or 35.4
mches apart
The 650 delivers 14.5 hp at
the PTO from a 2-cyhnder,
water-cooled 52.1-cu.-m.
diesel engine. The standard
540-rpm rear PTO with
overrunning clutch is driven
from the transmission.
Forward speeds run from a
creeper gear of 0.7 mph to a
top transport speed of 10.3
mph Reverse speeds are 0.7

The 750 Tractor provides a
