Starting Sunday evening will be a musical program by the U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants. Monday will officially open the Congress with field trips to points of interest in Chicago. As one of the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., this city is visited by 7.5 million people every year and provides tourists with many sites. Also, 287 scholarship win ners in 42 programs will be announced. The scholarships total $265,250 in value. Some 75 donors from well-known companies such as Firestone Tire and Rubber and Sim plicity Pattern are con tributing directly to the Congress program this year. National 4-H Congress is conducted by the National 4- H Council, the Cooperative Extension Services of the State Land-Grant Univer sities and the Department of Agriculture. Just as ad 4-H members have the same opportunity to earn their way to 4-H Congress, all youths in the nation have the opportunity to become a 4-H member provided there is ap propriate leadership. Of the 5.2 million 4-H’ers in the country, 20.5 percent bve on farms, 40 percent come from rural non-farm homes and towns of less than 10,000 to 50,000 population and 23 percent come from suburbs and cities of more than 50,000.
