winners in the 1980 national
4-H awards program, ac
cording to James O. Baker,
state 4-H leader All of the
winners will attend the
National 4-H Club Congress
in Chicago, November 29-
December 4

foods, Valerie Janice Moore,
Bear - health, Jane Louise

Kenton - fashion revue,
Jonathan Brooks Harcum,

Jane Gundry, Seaford - foods
and nutrition, Jonathan

Each of these young
people was selected on the
basis of outstanding work on
a specific 4-H club project
The purpose of the
projects is to develop
leadership talents and to
help participants work
toward the broad objectives
of character development
and effective citizenship
Award winners must also
demonstrate knowledge and
skills in their specific project
areas
During their week in
Chicago, the Delaware 4-H
members will join about 1800
other delegates from all
parts of the country to attend
meetings, hear nationally
known speakers and par
ticipate in recreational
activit -'s.

Richard Massey, Seaford, won the 4-H consumer
education award.

FLEMINGTON - Three
Hunterdon County 4-H
members will attend the 1980
National 4-H Club Congress
in Chicago, Illinois Susan
Landany, 18, of Stockton,
Michael Novak, 18, of
Flemington and Barbara
Vanden Berghe, 17, of
Sergeantsville, have been
selected as state winners in
Sheep, Agriculture and
Fashion Kevue, respec
tively.
Susan Ladany, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Ladany,
has been a member of the
Hunterdon County 4-H Sheep
Club for seven years and a
teen leader for three years.
She has chaired many
committees, served as a
camp counselor and has
been active on the Youth
Council executive com
mittee.
Susan’s major activities
have been sheep and
leadership where she has
received several honors In
1979, she was awarded the
Danforth Leadership Award
and in 1980 was given an
award for excellence in
junior leadership which was
sponsored and presented by
Senator Walter Foran
Susan is a freshman at
Bucknell majoring in
mathematics She hopes, one
day, to get back into the
sheep business or to become
involved in a 4-H program
Her trip is sponsored by. the
New Jersey Sheep & Wool
Cooperative, Hunterdon
County Board of
Agriculture, New Jersey
Hampshire Sheep Breeders
Association, and the New
Jersey Dorset Sheep
Breeders Association
Michael Novak, son of Mr
and Mrs Joseph Novak, has
been a member of the
Hunterdon County 4-H Beef
Club for six years and a teen
leader for two years
Michael has held several
office positions in his club
and served on such com
mittees as the Flemington
Fair Pent, square dance,
livestock, judges selection
New Jersey
attends Congress
and Beef Weedend com
mittees. He has been a
delegate of the Beef Council
and was president of the
group this'year.
Michael’s major 4-H
project involves beef, for
which he lias won many
awards He has also earned
projects in gardening,
poultry, swine, square
dancing and leadership
According to Michael, he
has enjoyed being a 4-H
member, sharing his ex
periences and making
friends with other youth who
are involved in 4-H.
Michael’s trip is sponsored
by International Harvester
Company.
Barbara Vanden Berghe,
daughter of Mr. & Mrs.
Raymond Vanden Berghe,
has been a member of the
Sifting Stitchers for eight
years and has been a teen
leader for three of those
years
While serving as a teen
leader, Barbara helped with
clothing judging and
arranging for judges,
refreshments, scoring sheets
and judging the first two
units in the clothing projects
She has served as chairman
for a modeling and judging
workshop, arranging for
speakers and teaching
modeling to twenty girls
As a member of the County
Clothing Council she has also
helped to plan the
Flemmgton Fair Fashion
Show.
Since 1972 she has won
many awards for her efforts
including being selected
Hunterdon County 4-H
Queen.
After high school Barbara
intends to major in home
economics in college. She
would like to pursue a career
in the fashion industry. She
says 4-H has definitely in
fluenced her decision for her
