Mertz Brothers are milking 45 cows with a herd average of
19,182 lbs. milk and 708 ibs. B.F. Haylage, Corn Silage and High
Moisture Shelled Corn are fed in a total mixed ration on the
bunk. H.M.C. and Supplement are fed in the stanchion barn
according to production. No Protein Supplement is fed to
milking cows under 55 Ibs. of milk. They own a 2040 HAR
VESTORE’ Structure for High Moisture Shelled Corn and a
2070 for Haylage. In addition to milk cows, 120 head of steers
and heifers are raised each year and fed out of the HAR-
Structures.

Nick, son Richard, and son-in-law Randy farm this 650-acre
farm. Corn, alfalfa and small grains make up the cropping
rotation and provide feed for the 116-cow dairy operation
They have a 2077 HARVESTORE Structure for Haylage
and a 2059 HARVESTORE" Structure for High Moisture
Shelled Corn, Haylage and Silage are fed on the bunk.
H.M.C. and Supplement are fed according to production in
the barn. Herd average is approximately 16,000 lbs. milk
and 610 lbs B.F.When Nick began feeding HARVESTORE
processed Haylage to his miking herd, the butterfat jumped
t 04.2% According to Nick, “The increase m butterfat more
than made my HARVESTORE" payments l ” When feeding
an all-Haylage program, Nick was able to save a ton of 38%
Dairy per week.

Good production with low feed bills is what you will see at the
Strausefarm! Corn, small grains and alfalfa-orchard grass make
up the cropping program on this 300-acre farm. Have a 2050
HARVESTORE' Structure for Haylage and a 2028 Structure for
High Moisture Corn Haylage and Corn Silage are fed on the
bunk along with baled hay H.M C and 38% Supplement are fed
according to production in the stanchion barn. The rolling herd
average is over 15,000 lbs. milk with approximately 540 lbs.
B.F. Top cows receive only 3.5 lbs. of Supplement a day! No
protein is fed to any cows under 50 lbs. of milk.
Last week’s ad should have stated that Julius
Dirisio’s DHIA records showed an average in
crease in return over feed cost of $842 per cow
and the total average return was $1342
per cow.
