Ephrata FFA Capon contest,
Thursday evening at the
high school
Weller’s capon, weighing
m at 10.25 pounds, was
chosen winner by Judge Jay
Irwin, County Agent
The son of Ely and Ellen
Weiler, Stevens, Marvin has
been in FFA for four years
Reserve champion went to
Mike Pfautz, Stevens His
bird weighed in at 11.50
pounds
Mike, an FFA member for
three years, is the son of
Leroy and Mildred Pfautz
Judge Irwin gave the
members reasons for his
order of selection, saying,
“There are a few things I
look for when judging birds
The first is the total finish of
the bird; is it a nice weight,
free of bruises and cuts and
with no pen feathers’’
“The second thing is
coloring Water at too high a
temperature can ruin
coloring ”
He did go on to say,
however, that “all the birds
are well prepared and it’s
very hard to make such a
decision.”
