He continued this operation until 1968, when he made his original land purchase of what is now Grand View Farms at Hanover, Illinois. There he started his purebred Charolais operation in 1970. He had the background, the basic knowledge of the cattle business, and an ap preciation for both the purebred and the com mercial cattle business to be a successful Charolais breeder. ■CA -*k c “*- st r ; -'*, 't- - Rising Sun. MD Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 8,1980—07 Grand View Farms, a division of Lockert’s Land Improvement Company, has been running 300 to 350 purebred Charolais cattle, under a complete program of growth and moder nization. Lockert recently held his second production sale and has been very active in Charolais shows. In 1979, he won the coveted ROE Illinois Trophy. - >r* Serious in their approach to breeding cattle, Grand View Farms has been openly objective in their evaluation of their own cattle and progress of the herd. As an active member of the Illinois Charolais Association board for many years, Lockert has been its most recent president. He also was serving his second term as director of the Ohio Valley Charolais Association. Along with his busy schedule, he was serving as a member of the AICA French Committee and past presidents’ council. Lockert also attended numerous AICA annual meetings. Lockert was residing near West Chicago, Illinois, with his wife Sharon, a daughter, Tami, and sons, Steve and Scott, before his recent death due to cancer, this past September 19.
