Since 1930, thousands of FFA members have stepped up to the podium to express their views on timely agricultural subjects. In the thirties, topics that dealt with “farm tax equalization” and “the debenture clause” were presented at local, state and national competition. In contrast, 1979 National Winner Lynette Marshall spoke on the nitrate ban and its effects on the meat in dustry. The Extemporaneous Speaking Contest seeks to encourage FFA members to become well-versed in a variety of agricultural topics and have the ability “to think on one’sfeet”.
