State Grange holds annual session FREDERICK, MD. - The 106th annual session of the Maryland State Grange was held Oct. 16-18 at the Sheraton Inn m Frederick, Md. The Frederick County Pomona Grange hosted the three-day session. State Master Rodman Myers, dairy farmer from Thurmont, said that grange member attendance and enthusiasm was equal to last year’s session. Frederick County Commissioner Adrian “Mac” Remsberg welcomed the grange members. State Chaplain Lavima McGolenck, held a memorial service for members deceased since 1979. Beltiville Grange placed first with an mcrease in membership of 17, second was Glade Valley, third was Jarrettsville, followed by New Market, Emmorton, Braddock, Emmitsburg, Thurmont, Linganore, Dublin and Calvert Granges. James Wilson of the National Grange presented the “Working Together for Safety” Awards to Glade Valley Grange, first and Thurmont Grange, second. The Women’s Activities Luncheon was hosted by Mrs Louisa Hott, chairman. A total of 125 persons at tended with Mrs. Julia Gouge of Hampstead, president of the Maryland Extension Homemakers Council, as keynote speaker. She expressed a willingness ; with the Grange in various programs and she outlined the homemakers structural programs. Lester Stem, chairman of the Deaf Scholarship Committee, introduced Kimberly Davenport and Mrs. Lucinda Whitworth, recipients of two $5OO deaf scholarships from the Grange.
