A3o—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 1,1980 Reading Fair BY LAUREL SCHAEFFER Staff Correspondent READING After a year of absence, the Reading Fair was once again brought to life, continuing a tradition lasting 125 years when the first fair was held. The new fair, held last week behind the Reading Fairgrounds Market, and Fairgrounds Square Mall was a refreshing return to the “basics”. Offering a variety of traditional Penn sylvania Dutch foods in cluding a pig roast, the Fair shyed away from the commercialism of mid ways. In its place were events such as egg tossing and bale throwing, in which any fairgoer was welcome to compete. Other attractions included a new and antique farm equipment, pony and carnage rides, and of course, livestock shows and exhibits, results for which follow. Displays, crafts, fruit and vegetable entries and exhibits were featured in the mall, protected from the cold weather which came to greet the fair. October 20th was the day of the baby beef and sheep shows. In Market Steers the results were as follows: Light Lightweight 1 Ralph Danner East Texas 2 Debra Krause Slatmgton 3 James Heffner Fleetwood Light Heavyweight 1 Liane Haas Douglasville 2 Lon Rabenold Kutztown 3 Kemanne Ranck Reading Nedra Yoder, Shoemakersville, showed the Grand Champion Milking Shorthorn, Pinesedge Melody 11.
