MacCauleys sweep Chester County
ATGLEN Donna and
Bill MacCauley swept the
top honors at the first
Chester County 4-H Market
Lamb Show on Tuesday.
Donna’s middleweight,
after taking first place in its
class, went on to win the
grand championship.
Brother Bill’s
heavyweight took the
reserve grand cham
pionship.
Donna, 10, and Bill, 15, are
the daughter and son of Mr.
and Mrs. William Mac-
Cauley, Rl, Atglen. The
show was held at the Mac-
Cauley’s Breezeview Farm,
south of Atglen.
The show, the first time an
organized competition was
held for 4-H market lambs,
was planned and conducted
by Cheryl Moran, Chester
County agent.
Judge for the show was
Bill Fairbairn, herdsman,
Embryo Transplant
Eh vision, New Bolton Center.
A 1900 graduate of Penn
State, he was a member of
the livestock judging team.
Trophies for the top
winners were donated by
West Grove Farm and Home
Center. Buyers’ trophies
were donated by Agway,
West Chester.

Following the show, the
animals were sold at the
Vintage Sales Stables.
The grand champion,
weighing 100 pounds, was
sold to the Southeast
National Bank of Atglen for
$2.06 a pound. The lamb was
immediately sold back to
Vincent Urso, of
Philadelphia, for $l.OB a
pound, with the funds
donated to the Golden Fleece
4-H Sheep Club.
The reserve champion was
sold to the Vintage Sales
Stables for $1 05 a pound
The heavyweight tipped the
scales at 145 pounds
Sale average was 82 cents

Local girls place at competition
PENN STATE Saturday
proved to be a happy day for
two Lancaster County girls
at the Make It Yourself With
Wool competition at Penn
State.
Elaine Good, Royer Rd.,
Ephrata, placed second in
the senior division with her
H market lamb show

Donna MacCauley, standing with trophy and rosette. Sister Nancy holds lamb.

She walked away with
approximately seven yards
of wool material for her
efforts in the district and
state show combined: four
yards for placing second at
state; 11/2yards for being a
contestant there; and 1 1/2
for placing first at the
district show in Lebanon.
Rhonda Witmer, 420 Clay
Road, Lititz, placed second
in the junior division. She
also entered a skirt and
jacket
Rhonda received 3 2/3
yards of wool material for
her winnings, along with the
1 1/2 yards for Lebanon’s
win and 1 1/2 for being a
contestant.
The two-day contest at
Penn State, October 25 and
26 also consisted of a tour at
the Woolnch Fabric Outlet
