The uniform price is a
marketwide weighted
average of the value of farm
milk used for fluid and
manufactured dairy
products.
The seasonal incentive
fund returned a total of
$3,711,058.21 or $.450 per
hundredweight to the dairy
farmer’s uniform price for
September. This fund was
generated by reducing the
uniform price paid
producers during the high
production spring months.
The total amount of milk
received from the 17,539
dairy farmers supplying the
New York - New Jersey
Marketing Area was
824,866,429 pounds during
September 1980. This was'
almost 19.2 million pounds
above last year. The gross
value to dairy fanners for
milk deliveries was
$110,608,973.85.
Wilson explained this
included differentials
required to be paid to dairy
farmers' but not voluntary
premiums or deductions
authorized by the fanner.
Regulated milk dealers
(handlers) utilized
394,220,574 pounds or 47.8
percent of the total amount
of mUk for Class I. The Class
I milk is used for fluid
products such as

paid $13.98 per hun
dredweight, or 30.1 cents per
quart, for the milk used in
Class 1 products compared
with $13.12 a year ago.
The balance of the milk,
52.2 percent, was used to
manufacture Class II
products including butter,
cheese, ice cream and
yogurt. For this milk the
handlers paid $12.13 per
hundredweight.
The uniform price is based
on milk containing 3.5
percent butterfat. For
September 1980, a dif
ferential of 16.7 cents was
applied to the price for each
one-tenth of one percent that
the milk tested above or
below the 3.5 percent
standard.
All prices quoted are for
bulk tank milk received
within the 201-210 mile zone
from New York City.
