C2B—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, octobtr2s,l9Bo BY LAUREL Staff Correspondent VIRGINVILLE - Members of the Berks County 4-H Swine Club ended another year of fellowship and competition with their annual awards banquet, held at the Virginville Grange, here. 4-H’ers were recognized for showmanship and fitting and Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Hogs shown at the annual 4-H Market Hog Round-up, held September 24th. Other members received trophies for best Blue Forms and Project Books in three age categories. Entertainment during the evening was a slide presentation by Joyce Miller and Sandy (Miller) Fryer, Virginville, entitled “Handy Work of God.” Ernst Miller, Master of the Berks Pomona Grange, welcomed the many guests in attendance. Karen Smith, Shoemakersville, received a trophy sponsored by Eastern Pennsylvania Pork Producers for exhibiting the Grand Champion Hog at the County Round-up. The 18- year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith is a Kenianne Rarick, Showman 12-15; Cheryl Adam, Showman and Fitter - 16 and older; Steve Rohrbach - Showman 8-11; and Jan Adam, Fitter 12-15. Her entry was a Yorkshire gilt bred by Ray Hoffman, Bemville. Dennis and Beth Cooper, Lenhartsville, were the sponsors of the Reserve Grand Champion trophy. This was-awarded to Gary Rohrbach, 15, also of Shoemakersville. Gary is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Rohrbach, his entry was a Duroc crossbred gilt. Showmanship and Fitting awards were presented to the following: Showman and Fitter -16 years and older - Cheryl Adam, Hamburg; Showman, 12 to 15 years - Kenianne Rarick, Reading; Fitter, 12-15 years - Jan Adam, Hamburg; Showman, 8-11 years - Steve Rohrbach, Shoemakersville; and Fitter, 8-11 years old - Greg Strieker, Bemville.
