The Berks County Society
of Farm Women 1 took a tour
of Redner’s Tiger Market,
R 2 Douglassville. Mr. Barry
Riddle, manager, explained
the procedure of marketing
homestead

2 cups sifted flour
2/3 cups lard
Vt teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons cold milk
Combine three ingredients and mix until crumbly. Add
milk.
APPLE NUT CAKE
V* pound butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoons cinnamon
% teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
3 cups apples, chopped fine
% cup walnuts
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla.
Beat until creamy. Sift cinnamon, flour, soda and salt.
Add to creamed mixture. Next, add apples and nuts. Pour
mto greased and floured 9” x 13” pan. Bake at 350 degrees
for about 45 minutes.

received the attendance
award apd the society scrap
book was awarded second
place. She also reminded the
members of' the state
crocheting project due at the
November board meeting.
Gifts for the Hamburg
Center will be. purchased by
Ruth Walters and Lillian
Hetrick. Highlighting the
meeting was the election of
officers. Elected president
was Pauline Hartman; vice
president, Ruth Walters;
secretary, Elsie Badrow;
corresponding secretary,
Patsy Moyer; and treasurer,
Pearl Levengood.
The next meeting will be
held November 12 at the
home of Mrs. Fem Yorgey,
R 1 Fleetwood. The program
will be on safety.

Society 4
The Berks County Society
of Farm Women 12 met at
the home of Glona Christ
man, R 1 Hamburg.
Guest speaker for the
evening was Mr. John
Falter, a Berks County 4-H
representative. He gave a
very interesting talk about
the plans for the new 4-H
building soon to be built.
Also new officers were
elected. They are: Rita
Stump, president; Pauline
Hartranft, vice president,-
Mary Leymeister,
secretary; and Helen
Schlappich, treasurer.
The next meeting will be
held at the Mohresville home
of Glenna Hix, November 10
at 8 p.m. Guest speaker will
be Mrs. Sara Graeff who will
present a program on dned
flower arrangements.

6 celebrated their 60th an
niversary with dinner at the
Dutch Diner, Palmyra,
Saturday, October 4. Twenty
people attended.
A short business session
was held also. Tickets were
sold for the county con
vention , and dues were paid
for the coming year. Sara'
Myer gave a reading entitled
Farmer’s Wife. At roll call
time members told how long
they have been members of
this society. Mrs. Esther
Mae Frey is. the oldest
member.
Mrs. Margaret Coleman
spoke on the theme, “My
Mama.” For her talk, she
used four w’s. She said her
mother was wise, warm,
waggish and a worker, with
a sense of humor.
The November meeting
will be held on the eighth at
the home of Mrs. Eva
Parrett, Park St.,
Elizabethtown at 1; 30 p.m.

held their annual banquet at
Harvest Drive Restaurant
on Saturday, October 11 at 6
p.m. ">

Wenger and Mrs. Mary
Eshelman - was in charge.
Forty-six persons attended.
