preserving the better far

transfers, development will
be localized in a single area
rather than spread out.
The only restriction, said
Barley, is that farmers may
not exceed the three percent
limit.
Other changes from the
county plan, he said, are
variations in required set
backs.
“We saw what happened in
Pequea Township where
they tried to be too
restrictive. Our plan is not
nearly so stringent.
“We’re promoting
agriculture in Manor
Township we have no
restrictions on the numbers
of animals or buildings a
farmer can have.”
Barley explained the new
ordinance in the ag district

COUDERSPORT - The
largest recorded move made
by a bear relocated in

chalked up by a brum caught
m Monroe County, released
in Potter County, and killed

making a nuisance of
himself, rummaging
through garbage at the

He pointed out this does
not mean the setback is
necessanlly 500 feet from a
single residence. In most
cases, he said, the setback
distance from a dwelling will
be 150 feet.
“We’re giving up some
things we know that but
we’re gaining some things
too. However, we’re afraid if
Manor Township doesn’t get
busy now and formulate a
local plan for preserving ag
land, we’ll have a plan
forced on us that’s drawn up
by the county or state,”
Barley said Friday.
“At least on the local level,
the plans will be sensitive to
the needs of the locality.
“We’re not saying the plan
is the cut and dry answer for
the next thirty years. It’s
just the best thing we’ve got
going now and we need to
give it a chance.”
