A group of outstanding agronomists, farmers, and research engineers will discuss aspects of alfalfa production and harvesting, silage and its role in livestock feeding, and hay evaluation and marketing, points out John E. Baylor, extension agronomist at Penn State. Conference registration will be held from 9 a.m. to noon to November 24 at the Convention Center. Advance registration forms are available at the Cooperative Extension Service Office. Keynote speaker will be W. K. Griffith, regional director of the Potash- Phosphate Institute. Baylor notes that a Grasslander of the Decade will be named at the recognition banquet on November 24. This forage fanner will be selected from among the yearly winners during the period 1970-79. In addition, a 1980 champion alfalfa grower will be named at the conference. Criteria used are yield of hay 'equivalent, crude protein and total digestible nutrients. The winner will be termined by records sub mitted in the Pennsylvania - Alfalfa Growers Program. The Forage Conference is sponsored by Penn State’s Cooperative Extension Service in Cooperation with the Pennsylvania Forage and Grassland Council.
