But inside it was raining dollars for the swine show’s champion Harold Kauffman. The R 1 Reinholds champ saw his 242 pound hog sell to Hatfield for $6 per pound to bring a total of $1452. The $6 figure exceeded last year’s all-time record by $2 per pound. 5* “Those are Farm Show prices,” commented Lan caster County Agent Max Smith. But Kauffman’s profits were only starting to roll in. Hatfield, which purchased all of the top animals in the show, ran the bidding up to $2.80 per pound on his reserve champion hog which ~ weighed 226 pounds. The bidding on ribbon winners dropped quickly thereafter. Steve Strauss, R 1 Ephrata, saw his light weight champion go for 65 cents a pound.
