In all sixty-two hogs and nineteen FFA steers went on the auction block. Last year’s Grand Champion FFA steer owner returned in first place again this year. Benue Houghton’s 1220 pound first place heavyweight sold to Ferguson and Hassler Supermarket at $1.75 per pound. To outbid all other com petitors, Truman Ferguson maintained the position of being top bidder since'the fair began several decades ago by shelling out eight cents more per pound than last year’s price of $1.67. Reserve Champion steer, sold by Sam Long, Peach Bottom went to K and S, Inc., Quarryville, Rl, for $1.03 per pound. Sale totals showed an average price of 99 cents per pound. Hatfield Packing once again bought .the Grand Champion market hogs as well as the reserve cham pion. Total sale revenues for the 62 hogs sold in lots of two or pens of four were clearly 35 cents above market price at 85 cents per pound. Helping to boost the average were the $1.46 paid for the Grand Champion pen pf two owned by Ryan Rohrer, Nottingham, and the $1.12 paid to Vicki Warfel for her reserve champion pen of two lightweights.
