Shive shows grand champ Angus
YORK Christine Shive,
of Seven Valleys, continued
on her winning way during
the Pennsylvania In
vitational Junior Angus
Show held recently at the
York Fair.
She and her heifer once
-again walked off with the
grand champion trophy after
some stiff competition.
Following Chris for the
reserve grand champion
slot was Joann Risbel, from
Glen Rock. This was Joann’s
first year of showing next
year she plans to try her luck
with an Angus steer.

Marhefka to head Juniata Extension
STATE COLLEGE - Jane
B. Marhefka, Juniata
County home economist on
the Penn State Extension
staff, has been named
County Extension Director,
effective the first of Sep
tember.
Thomas B. King, Penn
State associate dean for
extension, points out that
Marbefka will be responsible -
for program coordination for
the Juniata County Ex
tension Service. She suc
ceeds George L. Settlemyer,
who retired August 31.
A member of the Juniata
County staff since 1957, Mrs.
Marhefka received a
bachelor of science degree
from Juniata College in 1948
with a major in home
economics education. She
has done graduate work at
Pom State.
Appointed-to the Extension
Service staff following
State dairy princess contest
HARRISBURG - The 24th
annual Pennsylvania Dairy
Princess Coronation will be
held September 23 in Camp
Hill. The coronation is a
feature of the All-American
Dairy Show and is scheduled
to begin at 6:30 p.m, at the
Penn Harris Motor Inn.
The 1979-80 Pennsylvania
Dairy Princess, Eileen
Shull, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Roy Shull, of Piper
sville, will crown her suc
cessor at the event. She has
been promoting Penn
sylvania milk and milk
products this summer,
travelling throughout the
Commonwealth. The Penn
sylvania Dairy Princess
Program is coordinated by
Atlantic Dairy Association in
cooperation with the Penn
sylvania Department of
Agriculture.
This year 39 local dairy
princesses, representing 45
counties, will be competing
for the title. These lovely
young ladies are currently
involved in promoting milk

Pennsylvania Invitational Junior Angus Association Show held recently at the
York Fair.

served successively as
assistant home ecomonist in
Lancaster, Washington, and
Allegheny counties, then as
home economist in Arm
strong and Wyoming
counties.
She resigned September
1953 to devote full time to
set for Tuesday evening
and dairy products on the
local level.
The princesses will be
interviewed individually by
the judges and rated while
participating in an activity
related to the promotion of
dairy products. To be
eligible for the pageant, a
prospective contestant must
be in the 16-21 age group and
either be the daughter of a
dairy farmer or own at least
two dairy animals.
The Pennsylvania All-
American Dairy Show will
run September 22-26 at the
Farm Show Complex in
Harrisburg. The show
features entries of sue dairy
cattle breeds in competition
for over $66,000 in
premiums, and boasts three
national shows. Events at
the Farm Show are open to
the public at no charge.

cooperation with the
Agriculture Department and

Foods and Nutrition
Educational Program in
Juniata and Mifflin counties.
The new County Extension
Director was chairman of
the statewide Extension
family living program'
committee, and chaired
regional committees on
housing, home furnishings,
' and salable crafts.
Marhefka is a member
and past president of the
Pennsylvania Association of
Extension Home Economists
and member of the National

has attracted exhibitors of
the best in dairy cattle from
around the world since its
inception in 1964.
