ELIZABETHTOWN
Two youthful “hobby far
mers” took the top honors
- Wednesday night in beef
competition at the
Elizabethtown Fair.
Amidst a chorus of
thunder, lightning, pelting
rain on the canvas tent and
the applause of onlookers,
die top beef honors went to:
Bob Snyder, 17, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Melvin Snyder, 550
Groff Ave., Elizabethtown,
who showed his purebred
Angus junior yearling heifer
to first in the breeding
competition, and
Rick Baker, 18, a 1960
graduate of Elizabethtown
and member of the Lower
Dauphin Baby Beef Club,
who showed his Angus-
Chianina cross to the Grand
Championship of the Market
Steer competition.
.Both Bob and Rick are
non-farmers in the strict
definition of the term.
Bob is in his senior year of
studies at Elizabethtown and
hopes to go on to Penn State
to study wildlife technology
and become a researcher in
that field. His family has

Daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John M. Martin, R 1 East
Earl, Deb walked her lamb
every day before the 1979
show. On pasture this year,
her entry must have been
well trained because she
remained in top condition to
retain the title.
Deb and younger brother,
Barry, dominated the
championships. Deb also
took the Reserve Cham
pionship in the market
division, in addition to her
top winner in breeding.
Barry had the champion
market lamb and the
reserve champion in
breeding.
And even younger brother,
Jeff, took his share of win-
