Manure handling will be
governed by the DER’s
manual on Manure
Management for En
vironmental Protection.
Wording now says that
confinement buildings shall
be equipped with such
devices as are necessary to
eliminate, reduce or control
the effects of odors and in
sects upon neighboring
properties.
The township has retained
the right to approve the
location of such buildings.
The definition of
agribusiness has been
changed and excludes any
poultry operations under
10,000 birds or cattle
operations under 100
animals from the extra
restrictions.
The wording on 3 head of
livestock per acre has been
deleted.
Ken Funk, Township
Supervisor said that “you
can’t mix them (homes and
farms) together. The
planning commission over
the next year or two will be
studying the ag districts
which Amos Funk talked
about Thursday evening.
These districts would solve a
lot of problems.”
Some homes he knows of
along roads, “such as the
one our zoning officer lives
in which was built in 1954
were built when farms had
50 cows. Now they’re using
all the technology they have
to farm big but they’re still
spreading their manure like
they did when they had 50
cows,” Funk said.
Funk said the supervisors
plan to adopt the ordinance
with the revisions at the

meeting.
