C34—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 13,1980 Solanco Fair parade Wednesday QUARRYVILLE - The annual Solanco Fair parade will be held Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. Raindate is Thursday. September 18. The parade will assemble on the South area of the Legion Park grounds and move out the South drive. It will follow 4th Street, turning Solanco Fair opens this week QUARRYVILLE - The 31st annual Solanco Fair will open this Wednesday, September 17, at the fairgrounds m Quarryville. Exhibits will be accepted from 3-10 p.m. on Tuesday, and Wednesday until 10 a.m. Dairy cattle judging will lead off the fair activities, beginning on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the judging of colored breeds. Holstems will be judged on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. Sheep judging also on Wednesday will begin at 1:30 p.m. Classes have been included for 4-H and FFA breeding and market sheep as well as fitting and showmanship contests. The parade will begin at the Legion Park at 6-45 p.m. Wednesday evening, com plete with colorful floats, marching bands and the latest in tractors and automobiles. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a cake sale when all entries in the baked products division of the fair except those retamed for exhibit will be auctioned after the parade on Wednesday evening. Proceeds will go to the Solanco Auxiliary to the Lancaster General Hospital. A tug of war with both light and heavyweight divisions will be held at 8:30 p.m. with teams of 12 persons and less. A rotating trophy will be awarded the winning team. Thursday tractor driving contests will kick off the day’s activities starting at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m. the Holstein judging will begin. Swine judging of market hogs will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday. The parade which mcludes marching umto, business floats and youth organization floats is one of the highlights of the annual fair. The baby beef judging will begin at 6.30 p.m. Thursday preceding a baby parade at the fairgrounds. The fair will have it’s own version of the Olympics on Thursday evening at 8:15 p.m. with both youth and open competition featuring teams of 6. Friday at 2 p.m. the market hog sale will be held with the baby beef sale held immediately afterward. Games for youngsters in first through sixth grades will be held at 6:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. Re-Creation is scheduled with the Rural Youth Award presentation held during the en tertainment. The fair kitchen will be serving hot lunches each day at the kitchen. Chicken Pot Pie will be served Wed nesday, Beef Stew on Thursday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with a Ham dinner planned from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday. Friday beginning at 11 am. Hot Roast Beef sand wiches will be served. Vegetable soup will be served Wednesday and Chicken Corn Soup on Thursday and Friday. In addition, there will be hot and cold sandwiches, homemade pies and beverages available all days.
