Now ourown acres of woodland hold no en chantment for him but the mountains that might hold deer do. ' He has wanted to explore some, new bunting ground and finally picked a day when I felt that I was too busy to go along. However, as I knew he wouldn’t be happy until he went, we packed a lunch and set off for a few hours. He actually helped pack lunch, which is unusual for him, so that I could prepare some cucumbers for pickling. Luckily our two teenagers were free to ac company us and so we had a short swim in the pool at Little Buffalo State Park after we ate our picmc under a tree that was dropping tiny caterpillars on us. While we swam, Allen spent his time using his binoculars to scan the nearby mountains and lake with its fishermen.. Then we drove deep into the mountains on unpaved and bumpy roads. Som£ of them were marked “dsad end” but that didn’t keep us from trying them. I spied a box hanging from a limb which my family told me was a milk carton but I disagreed. So, we in vestigated and found it to be the gypsy moth trap that I suggested it was when I first saw it. There were several look out points high in the Drink m for E to BURN | mountains which looked out over Doubling Gap. We stopped to take pictures and share a snack. Even though we kept our eyes open, we did not see one deer on this trip. All we saw was a mouse and a grouse. (My Grandma Landis would have said, “That is true because it rhymes.”) Before we got on the turnpike to return home, we saw fields of com which were very short and not developed due to lade of moisture. When I got home my one half bushel of beans was still waiting in the refrigerator to be frozen and the baskets of peaches had not run away either. So it is back to the “old grind” as they say.
