An attempt is being made by the Syracuse, N.Y. based organization to schedule a similar confab with President Carter’s people m the near future. Howard McDonald, Eastern’s General Manager, announced the purpose of the meeting was to gather in formation regarding farm policy matters as they pertain to the agricultural planks of the Republican platform, approved at the national convention on July 14,1900. The principal topics discussed included policy attitudes on milk price supports, federal milk marketing orders, farmer cooperatives, regulatory standards for antibiotics and pesticide residues and in ternational trade. Reagan is believed to be a strong supporter of the Federal Milk Marketing Order program. A Republican ad ministration does not, at this time, favor milk supply controls and tends to favor a workable program for supporting milk pricing, they said. Ihe Republican party candidates enthusiastically support the Capper-Volstead Act and strong farmer cooperatives. They are concerned over attempts to undermine the bargaining ability of dairy farmer cooperatives. A Republican ad ministration likely will work toward alleviating excessive regulations of agriculture, but will support programs necessary to provide an adequate and high quality supply of food for the nation’s consumers. Support was also evident for the school milk and school lunch programs. Reagan’s representatives indicated that the Republicans are in favor of restoring the position of the farmer cooperative service in the Department of Agriculture which has been down graded under the reorganization program of the Carter administration.
