Record price paid for grand champion hog
LEBANON - A look of
disbelief and then pure
happiness spread across the
face of 8-year-old Daryl
Grumbme during Saturday’s
4-H and FFA livestock sale
held here at the Fair
Grounds.
As he slapped his grand
champion market hog on the
shoulder to keep him moving
in front of a crowd of 37
registered buyers, the young
4-H’er heard auctioneer
Harry Bachman chanting
the price higher and higher.
When the gavel came
banging down on the auc
Julie . jw sold her grand champion lamb to the Lebanon Plaza Mall Mer
chant's Association for a record-setting $2 a pound. Representing the
Association is Dale Miller.

had sold his 220 pound Duroc
to Hatfield Packing for a
record-breaking $6 a pound.
Quick figuring on the part of
Sandy Bachman followed
and tiie crowd soon learned
that this champion porker
will increase Daryl’s bank
account to the tune of $1320.
When asked what he
planned to do with all the
money, young Grumbme
thought for a moment and
then responsibly said, “First
I’ll pay for my feed bill, and
then I’ll put some m the
bank.”
