Lancaster County provided much of the stimulus for Catherine's paintings.
The plain folk here are one of her favorite subjects.

opening.
For the past sixteen years,
Catherine has been spending
her time not only with a
trowel and hammer, but also
with a paint brush. She
spends her time working in
oils.
Catherine's works are
deep toned glossy paintings
of rural hfe, especially
Lancaster County and the
plain sects. She is a member
of Berks Art Alliance, and
has exhibited in at the
Reading Museum.
One of the rooms on the
first floor of their home she
has outfitted with easel, sink
and tables to accommodate
her hobby. The room gets
frequent use attested by the
fact that the walls in it and
other rooms m the Kohl
household are lined with
paintings.
Catherine said her
husband has the farm in
alfalfa and sells it rather
than feeding it because the
price on steers in the past
year or so has been too
uncertain She said he is an
avid reader of LANCASTER
FARMING He checks the
paper for market prices and
she is careful never to throw
it away until late Friday,
just before the next issue

Catherine says she and her
husband are building a place
for them to live and work
when her husband retires
And with every stroke of her
brush or hammer, she gets
closer to nailing that future
down.

Catherine is seated in front of a fireplace front
she built. The Kohls have spent countless hours
restoring their farm home. Catherine says the first
three homes she helped to build and this one she
has done a tot of the restoration work herself.
The artistic touch in Catherine is demonstrated
by this artful use of a big tree stump as a flower
bed.
