LEESPORT Two red
hogs owned by members of
the Twin Valley FFA swept
the honors at the annual
Berks County FFA Hog
Show and Sale, held here
July 30th at the Leesport
Market and Auction.
Grand Champion
exhibitor, Nelson Beam, 17,
of R 2 Elverson, took home
one of the highest paid
premiums for an FFA
champion hog in Berks
County for several years, if
not for all time. Hatfield
Packing paid $4 a pound for
the 250 pound grand champ
Behind Beam was Reserve
Champion exhibitor, Tim
Stoltzfus, 17, K 2 Elverson,
whose hog also brought an
outstanding price. Hatfield
Packing paid $2.90 per pound
for the Reserve Champion
that weighed 220 pounds.
Both hogs were Duroc x
Yorkshire x Hampshire
crosses.
