Somerset County Fair to run August 17-23 <
MEYERSDALE - Final
plans are being completed
for the annual Somerset
County Fair at Meyersdale,
to be held this year August
17 through August 23.
Emerson Suder, Presi
dent of the Fair Associa
tion, says the rural and
farm exhibits and displays
will be the best in the Fair’s
history.
The Fair opens with a
horse show at 10 a.m. on
August 17 in the centerfield.
The evening program in
cludes flag-raising
ceremony, a vesper service
and selection of a new Fair
Queen to succeed Deborah

County Fair.

Judging of all displays
begins on Monday, August
18, with the evening feature
being Jack Kochman’s
Thrill Show.

day. Thursday will be a big
day, including the annual
horseshoe pitching contest.

m the Commonwealth during
the week ending July 26 were
2,211,000 according to the
Pennsylvania Crop
Reporting Service.
The placements were eight
percent above the previous
week and one percent above
the corresponding week a
year earlier. Average
placements during the past
nine weeks were two percent
below a year ago.
Placements ir the 21 key
poultry producing states
were 77,450,000, slightly
below the previous week and
three percent below the
same week a year earlier.

A new building to house
livestock is now under con
struction and will be com
plete for the Fair. The 50
foot by 180 foot building
pole building, open on
allsides, will house four rows
of show animals, a modern
milk house and milking
stalls.
Somerset Countians in
terested in the Fair have
contributed financially to
help pay for the building,
the exact cost is not known

All new facilities have
been built to house hogs and
sheep and the old sheep and
hog bams will be used to
house surplus stock.
The Somerset County
Fair grounds is located a
mile west of Meyersdale.
The event has become the
biggest agricultural exposi
tion in Western Penn
sylvania and one of the
largest of it’s type m the
State.
