purebred steer and $lOOO
more in premiums - to the
already-announced awards
for the 1980 4-H Club and
FFA Carcass Steer Contest
to be held here on September
27.
Lawrason Sayre, of Waffle
Hill Farm, Churchville,
Maryland, will present the
purebred Angus feeder steer
to the youthful exhibitor of
the champion carcass steer
in the contest. The event will
be one of the highlights of the
Eastern National Livestock
Show at the State Fair
Grounds September 26-
October 1.
John Mrotek, of Run
nymeade Farms, Bright
wood, Virginia, will donate
$lOOO from the sale of a
registered Angus heifer to
the already-announced prize
Davidsburg 4-H Club to meet Sunday
DOVER The David
sburg 4-H Club met recently
at the 4-H Center. A mmi
olympics was held in
preparation for the annual 4-
H Olympics. Members
participated in events such
as the auto relay, feedbag
race, and egg toss.
The club voted to help with
the Dover Recreational Area
Park which is being con
structed in front of the Dover
Area Intermediate School.
And a comnuteee was for
med to organize a club trip.
Next meeting will be held
Sunday, August 10. The

Shorthorn Heifer Show held
here recently.
The crowd of several
hundred persons watched
intently as 20-year-old
money of $l2BO.
Competition in the event is
open to 4-H Club and FFA
members exhibiting steers
of any recognized beef breed
sired by a registered bull.
Steers wil be judged in one
class for live evaluation and
their carcasses will be later
evaluated.
The champion and reserve
champion awards will go to
the highest and second
highest indexing carcasses
weighing 575 to 775 pounds
and grading low choice or
better. The exhibitor of the
champion, in addition to the
award from Mr. Sayre, will
receive $5OO and the
exhibitor of the reserve
champion will receive $250.

ported Irish dam, Shannon
Margie. She weighed 1,055
pounds on show day and
measures 52% inches at the
hip.

Roan Dolly as the dam.
The heifer weighed 1,095
pounds and measured 53%
inches at the hip. She has
had a successful show ring
career, having recently been
named the All-American
junior heifer calf for honors
received during the 1979
show season.
Exhibitors from 16 states
attended the Kansas event,
captioned “Decade of
Direction” that also included
workshops, a seminar
program co-sponsored with
Kansas State University and
a barbecue and dance hosted
by Norma and Gene Lindsey
at their Little Ponderosa
Ranch near the city.
