Bl4—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 26,1980 Diamond and Sterling Charolais dams recognized HOUSTON, Tex. - Nine more purebred Charolais cows have been recognized by the American- International Charolais Association for their out standing maternal ability. Joe C. Paschal, Director of Breed Improvement of AICA, recently notified the Ham’s owners their cows had been selected for the Dam of Distinction Award. One of the dams was recognized as a Diamond Dam of Distinction, the fourth in the history of the program which dates back to 1975 and the other seven were awarded Sterling Dam of Distinction certificates. The new Diamond Dam is Miss Oro Blanco 747, F 33327, owned by Arthur Schaefer of Keene, California. Miss Oro Blanco 747 was born on March 12, 1967, had her first calf on November 23, 1969 and had her tenth calf on April 3, 1979 for an average calving interval of 378 days. Her ten calves averaged 583 pounds, and indexed an average of 5 percent better than their 152 herd contemporaries. Miss Oro Blanco is out of Miss Oro Blanco 22, F 12699, by Oak Bar 245, M 1913. She was also the 33rd Sterling Dam of Distinction having received that award on March 16,1978.
