CATTLE: Choice 11001300
lb. Steers closed firm, in
stances 25 higher, while
yearling type new crop 975-
1075 lbs. were weak to 50
lower. Heifers 925-1100 lbs.
were fully steady, 850900
lbs. Weak to 25 lower. Cows
were 4.C06.0 lower and bulls
3.004.00 lower.
Slaughter steers and
heifers were under mild
downward pressure the
forepart of week in reflection
of a dull carcass trade, and
most buyers were rather
cautious and selective.
However, midweek trading
was active on a curtailed
supply as carcass prices
improved. Best inquiry
centered strongly on Choice
31100-1300 lb. Steers and 925-
1050 lb. Heifers as the run
included an increasing
volume of new crop steers
and heifers. There was good
demand for cattle to be
slaughtered outside the
immediate Omaha area. The
overall finish of the steer and
heifer supply was somewhat
less attractive than most
recent weeks with a large
share Good to Average-
Choice Steers made up
approximately 45 pet and
heifers 28 pet. Cows com
prised 13 pet and feeders 10
pet.
