CARKNER BROTHERS Merrickville, Ontario Howard & Ross Carkner use 225 working acres of cropland and process their crops through three HARVESTORE® structures, two 2080’s (purchased in 1975 and 1979) and a 2035 in 1976. There are 72 tie stalls with 55 cows being milked and 100 young cattle. Carkner’s have a new 16” - 100 ft. belt feeder. Milk production is 16,000 lbs. with 4.1 plus B.F. This has been the top herd in the county for the last three years. MAITLAND MEADOWS Jasper, Ontario There are 230 head of livestock at William Maitland’s, 80 milking cows and 150 young cows. Herd average is 16,000 lbs. plus and 600 lbs. B.F. There are 80 stanchions in the barn and 400 tillable acres. Haylage is fed from one 2070 and two 2080 HARVESTORE® structures and a 2035 HARVESTORE® structure is used to store high moisture shelled corn. A top dressing of soy meal is fed to top producers. A 100 ft. HARVESTORE- 12” belt feeder purchased in 1974 is used for a heifer and dry cow lot.
