William Fouse, chief of the
Milk Sanitation Division of
the Pennsylvania Depart
ment of Agriculture,
reported on Wednesday that
he had not received any
notice of the requested
deferment in the Food and
Drug Administration’s 1978
Pasteurized Milk Ordinance
regulating milk testing
“To my knowledge, the
new regulation went into
effect on July 1, as ordered,”
he said.
What the new ruling calls
for is a more sensitive an
tibiotic test for “the portion
of the milk supply that is
shipped interstate,” said

“Comingled raw milk and
all pasteurized milk or milk
products will be tested by
one of two methods
Bacillus stearothermophilus
disc assay method or Sar
cma lutea cylinder plate
method. These tests replace
the Bacillus subtihs test
which has been used in
Pennsylvania for quite a few
years,” he explained.
However, Fouse pomted
out individual milk
producers will still be able to
use the old test unless they

Chester livestock judging winners named
ELVERSON - The annual
Chester County Livestock
Judging Contest was held
recently at the farm of Omar
Beams here.
The contest started at 7.00
p.m. with contestants
judging a breeding and
market class of beef, sheep,
and swine Fifty-eight
contestants participated and
were split into three
divisions - Junior, Senior,
and Adult Montgomery
County and Delaware
County 4-Hers also attended
Don Cairns, Sadsburyville,
and members of the Chester
