On the other farm, the
southeast four-bay wall of a
bam built m the late 1700’s
was blown out The violent
storm scared cattle back
mto the bam, or else they
would have been buried
under the debris in the
barnyard
The livestock on the Nolt
farm was not as lucky The
high wmds are believed to
have casued an electrical
short-circuit, which set the
barn afire.
The family was able to let
out 15 head and firemen
worked for eight hours to
free 34. But 36 perished

Durlach Road; a barn of
Samuel Martin and a large
chicken house of J. Elvm
Martin.
Earlier this week, hun
dreds of neighbors and
members of the farm
community gathered at the
damaged farms to clean up
debris and begin repairs.
Between the Nolt and Ezra
Martin farms alone, there
was a small army with chain
saws, t/ucks, wagons,
bulldozers, carpentry tools
and muscle.
While the men worked to
remove the debris, the
