Pa. dairymen bring home top-selling Holsteins from 95th

NASHVILLE, Tn. - The
two top selling females sold
at the 95th Convention of the
Holstein Association of
America will be coming
home to Pennsylvania dairy
farms.
Obie Snider, of Singing
Brook Farms, Imler,
Bedford County, bought the
highest selling Holstein cow.
The price-tag on the
daughter of Glendell Arlmda
Chief was $36,000. She js a
three year old cow with a two
year old lactation record of
LITITZ Thirty years of
experience with 2,4-D for

sylvania Holstein consigned
at the sale was Galen
Crouse’s bred heifer. The
daughter of an Excellent
Kathy cow sold for $ll,OOO.

The bull’s outstanding
dam was bred in Bradford
County at the John Howard
Farm, Wyalusmg. She is a

Apple. The bull’s sire is SWD
Valiant.

plants is a common sign of
2,4-D injury but can be
caused by other factors.

Pennsylvania Holstein
Association.

highlight at the convention,
which according to Nichol
was the largest ever held by
the Association, was the
reelection of Donald A.

second four-year term on the
board of directors.
Nichol said that out of the
2700 people attending the
broadleaf control
the applicator has not
followed proper procedures
as to rate, height of com,
weather, growing con
ditions, and application
procedure or when there has
been an unexpected change
in weather. Some University
of Nebraska research has
indicated that significant
com yield reduction does not
necessarily follow severe
visual symptoms of 2,4-D
damage.
The following points
should be reviewed, un
derstood, and practiced by
anyone using 2,4-D. The
small risk of 2,4-D damage is
balanced by good broadleaf
