SMICKSBURG - Darlene
McConaughey, the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs Clyde Mc-
Conaughey, Sraicksburg,
has been named the 1980
Pennsylvania Southdown
Queen.
She has chosen for this
honor on the basis of her
knowledge of sheep, her
participation in sheep ac
tivities, and her poise and
personality.
During her reign as state
queen, she will help with
Southdown promotions,
attend Southdown shows and
attend elementary schools
to talk about sheep and
southdowns. Her next
engagement will be
promoting Southdowns at
the Keystone Sale in
Harrisburg on July 10 and 11.
An active 4-H club
member, Darlene will
compete for the National
Southdown Queen title at the
Livestock Exposition in
Kentucky later this fall.
She currently owns 35 head
of sheep and has exhibited
sheep both locally and at the
Keystone Livestock Ex
position. In 1979, she
exhibited the Reserve Junior
Champion ram m the Junior
Southdown Show at the
event

Indiana County girl named Southdown queen
Darlene McConaughey, Smicksburg, has been
chosen Pennsylvania Southdown Queen for 1980.
She’ll be promoting the breed at the Keystone Sale
this coming week.
