Juniata crowns dairy princess Denise Love, was crowned the 1980 Juniata County Dairy Princess by Jackie Stoner, the 1979 Princess, at the Fifth Annual Dairy Princess Pageant on Friday evening, June 20, at the McAlisterville Park. Miss Love, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Love, East Waterford, is 16 years old and will be a Juniata High School Senior this fall. The pageant was sponsored by the Juniata County Holstein Club. The purpose of the group, according to dairyman Hershey Bare, R 2 Lebanon, is to help improve all phases of Pennsylvania forage and grassland agriculture by collecting, analyzing and disseminating useful in formation. In short, the group keeps farmers on top of latest practices in alfalfa and grass production. In addition, the Council co sponsors the annual forage workshops These four-day workshops are held in the spring at various locations around the state. They provide in-depth training for progressive forage and livestock far mers. Seed varieties, fer tilization, pesticides, feed and machinery all are discussed at the sessions. A quarterly newsletter, ‘Pennsylvania Grassland News” and the national “Forage and Grassland Progress” are sent to all members The group is in the vanguard of hay marketing research m the state and a attempting to set standards for both buyers and sellers of Pennsylvania’s forage crops. The Council supports Ag Progress Days and co sponsors the annual hay and silage competition shows which recognize and stimulate high quality forage production It co-sponsors the out standing forage and grassland farmer award program which honors farmers with top grassland farming programs.
