Al2—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 28,1980 Livestock market an Omaha Cattle TTmrsday, June 26 Report supplied by USDA Midweek prices on slaughter steers and heifers were 1.00-1.50 higher in generally aggressive trading. Cows were 1.50-2.00 higher, bulls steady to weak. Four Day Receipts: 14,000; Last Weak 12,400; Year Ago 9,600. The upward spiral in fed cattle prices continued under a good demand stimulated by advancing prices on carcass beef at the wholesale level. The current upturn pushed closing levels to the highest point since last December and some 8.00- 9.00 above the low time recorded in early April. Midweek trading slowed somewhat on steers, however, as some tem porary instability developed m carcass trading, with processors reported bearish and packers holding a strong position. Supplies were slightly larger than the previous week, but were ideally distributed over the trading penod. Weighing conditions usually favored the selling side with hot, humid weather encouraging rather liberal waterfalls. The consist again included a liberal percentage choice steers with much of the heifer supply good to average-choice. Steers made up approximately 48 pet of the week’s total and heifers 34 pet. Cows comprised 10 pet and feeders 6 pet. STEERS: At midweek, two loads Choice 3 1252 lbs. 70.25.
