CB—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 14,1980 to run at Ag Progress Days HARRISBURG - Vegetables will be in the spotlight August 20 at the first Pennsylvania Vegetable Recipe Contest ag Ag Progress Days at Rock Springs, Centre County, according to Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Penrose Hallowell. Any vegetable recipe using Pennsylvania grown vegetables as a main ingredient in any form may be entered. Persons 18 years or older, without professional food status, are invited to enter. Twelve finalists will be chosen to prepare their ! ~W. 2. Cdfetidcui Saturday, June 14 Lancaster Co. Society 25 will meet at the home of Helen Myhn. Jean Puianka will be the speaker. Lancaster Co. Society 19 will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Lucetta Long. Lucinda Landis, Dairy Princess will be the speaker. Monday, June 16 Lancaster Co. Society 31 will meet at the home of Ann Risser at 7:30 p.m. for a talk on farmer’s lung disease. Tuesday, June 17 Berks Co. Society 6 will meet at the home of Sallie Hauseman. Dauphin Co. Society 16 will meet at the home of Martha Hertzler. There will be a soft sculpture demonstration. Thursday, June 19 Cumberland Co. Society 15 will meet at the home of Grace Myers. Cumberland Co. Society 10 will meet at the home of Jean Barnhart for a musical Vegetable recipe contest recipes on August 20 with a top price of $lOO awarded to the first place winner. The runner-up will receive $5O, while the third and fourth place contestants will each receive $25. The vegetable dishes will be judged on the following basis: taste, 40 points; ease of preparation and prac ticality, 20 points; originality, 20 points; and appearance, 20 points. The recipes must be specific, but brand names may not be used. The recipe must be prepared as sub mitted, and number of servings and preparation Saturday, June 21 Lancaster Co. Society 18 will meet at the home of Mrs. James Eshelman at 1:30 p.m. Roberta Shepardson will give a review of the Heritage Cookbook. Lancaster Co. Society 3 will meet at the home of Vivian Stauffer for a program of tinsel pain ting by Beatrice Hoff man. Lancaster Co. Society 8 will meet at the home of Ruth Musser for a safety program. The contest *s Sewing seminar slated LANCASTER - educational day for the home sewer will be held June 18, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center. Registration of $1 is payable at the door. This day long event will feature demonstrations and displays from eight major sewing product companies. In addition, extension home economists, sewing teachers, and other talented maim _ I * sponsored by the Penn sylvania Vegetable Growers, the Pennsylvania Department of agriculture and the Pennsylvania State Cooperative Extension Service. Each contestant may submit one recipe which should be typed and sub mitted in triplicate to: Judi Keefer, Chairman, Schuylkill County Extension Service, Box 250, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972, 717-385- 3431. Entry deadline is July 16, 1980. Final plans were made for the Bus trip June 3. Mrs. Wood & Mrs. Boaz gave a report of the Spring Rally which was held in York May Ist. Mary Swan reported on the sewing at Lancaster General Hospital. Plans were made for a picmc in Mrs. Brabson’s yard June 28. Helen Shaub, Grace Ann Ghose & Mary Trimble were appointed to make plans for the Anniversary Luncheon in August. Lancaster Co. Society 28 Lancaster 28 met for a mother and daughter banquet at the Hershey Farms Restaurant. Music was provided by David and Joanne Wenger. Our speaker was Mrs. Newcomer who presented her doll collection and spoke all about dolls. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 26 at Witmer’s Greenhouses. Don Deiter will speak on housrfg plants and foliage care. York Co, Society 12 NEW BRIDGEVILLE - Friendly Society of Farm Women Group 12 met at the home of Mrs. Carl S. Bacon with 19 members and 2 guests attending. A poem “Where There Is Love” was read by President Mrs. Donald Lanius. A prize was won by Mrs. Ruth Runkle. Plans were formulated for the June meeting.
