June 5 Report supplied by USDA Midweek prices" on Slaughter Steers were weak to 50 lower. Heifers closed 25-50 lower. Cows were 50- 1.00 higher and bulls steady. Four day receipts this week 14,400, last week 11,900, a year ago 13,800. The fed cattle trade followed a rather uneven course as buyers sought to maintain an acceptable ratio between live prices and erratic realizations. A firm tone prevailed Monday, but live prices were forced downward by a sharply breaking carcass trade on Tuesday; however, much of this downturn was regamed on a small midweek supply as carcass trading again trended upward. Since recovery from the low point in early April, prices have shown only mild net change over the past seven week period, with week to week variations often not more than 25-50 cents cwt. The overall finish this week was still rather attractive with a liberal percentage Choice and a moderate volume Choice and Prime. Slaughter steers made up ap proximately 48 pet of the week’s total and Heifers 36 pet. Cows comprised 11 pet. and feeders 3 pet. STEERS: Forepart of PENN DUTCH FARM SYSTEMS, INC. STATE DAIRY .
