This year’s show will be September 29 to October 1, according to John Wildesen, manager. These dates were set to accommodate the exhibitors of the three major species of livestock, be noted. Exhibitors will be able to show at the Atlantic Rural Exposition in Richmond, Virginia, the Eastern National and the Keystone International Exposition in Harrisburg, in a week and a half span of time. Cumberland wool pool CARLISLE Cumberland Sheep and Wool Grower’s Wool Pool will be held Wednesday, June 18, from 7 ajn. to 3 p.m. at the Carlisle Fairgrounds located along Route 34. The pool is open to producers from nearby counties. Wool will be graded and weighed in the pooler’s presence. Producers will get a receipt showing pounds of each grade and will receive checks for wool within a couple of weeks. Penn State livestock specialists will conduct wool grading demonstrations. awards banquet held BEAVER SPRINGS - The West Snyder FFA Chapter held their annual awards banquet recently in the high school cafeteria where a delicious ham dinner was served. Ap proximately 250 people attended the annual affair. The speaker for the evening was Jeffery Kerr, FFA State Sentmal, and Darkel Bieler, FFA State North Central Region Vice President. Park Thomas presented the First National Trust Bank awards to Lisa Shirey for first place S.U.N. Area FFA dairy herd record book, and to Barry Waite with sweet com, field com, and a dairy herd record book. Roger Reich won the Com Club award with 1 acre yielding 153 bushels of com. A penalty of double entry fees per head will be changed during the penod of time between August 15 and September 22. Charolais. Limousin, Chianma and Simmental All fleeces must be tied. Loose fleeces and fleeces tied with binder twine or other string will be sold as rejects. Use only paper fleece twine to tie the wool. Wood must be free of ex cessive moisture. Wool should be put in a cool dry place where it is exposed to plenty of air. Avoid putting wool in a plastic bag where it can become mildewed. Tags should also be kept separate from other wool. Do not bring wool to the pool in plastic woven bags. Fleeces that are brought to the pool in plastic woven bags will be severely discounted. Cumberland Cooperative The West Snyder FFA Bob Jones presented the Production Credit award to Lisa Shirey for the best record book in Snyder County. Lisa also won the dairy award from Inter- State Milk Producers. In order to be eligible, the heifer must be registered or recorded with their respective breed organization and the papers must be on the show grounds with the junior exhibitor’s name listed' as the sole owner. Ownership time requirements vary depen ding on the age of the heifer and is specified in the Premium List of the show. In addition, fitting contests for teams of three 4-H and/or F.F.A. members of beef and on June 18 Wool Grower’s Board of Directors sold their 1900 wool clip to A.H. Helmig & Co. Inc., Boston, Ma. The cooperative will receive 85 cen£s per pound for medium wool, 3/8 and 1/4 staple. Eighty cents will be paid for 3/8 and 1/4 clothing and 82 cents will be paid for low 1/4 and fme wool. Eighty cents will be paid for medium reject wool. The above prices per pound will be paid Cumberland Cooperative’s Wool producers for each grade. However, a charge will be deducted from each pooler’s total pounds of wool for dues and expenses of the pool operations. Of the 2 prizes given, Enc Stone won a Marlin 22 Long rifle and Bar|py-Waite won a portable hand-drill. sheep have been scheduled for Friday night, September 26. The swine show will continue to emphasize the production tested concept where barrow pigs between 45-70 pounds go on test at a central test site in June and will be shown live at the Eastern National on Sep tember 27th. The final grand champion will be selected on scores which include growth, visual appraisal and carcass merit. TTie champion barrow will receive over $5OO in premiums. Three new breeds of sheep will be shown at the 1980 Eastern National. Breeds added to the show are Montadale, Merino and Rambouilett. In addition, a “Sheep to Shawl” contest has been scheduled for Thursday, September 25. Junior judging contests with $l,OOO scholarships will also be offered in livestock, horse and dairy for this year’s show.
